Resources for at-home Fitness workouts that require no weights or equipment
PE Parents & students,
According to the CDC, children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 years should get 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
- Aerobic: Most of the 60 minutes or more per day should be either moderate- or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity and should include vigorous-intensity physical activity on at least 3 days a week.
- Muscle-strengthening: As part of their 60 minutes or more of daily physical activity, children and adolescents should include muscle-& bone strengthening physical activity on at least 3 days a week.
This is even more time than we have together as a class weekly, so it is vitally important that students get additional minutes of physical activity at home.
The Importance of Intensity in Physical Activity
Students can get these workouts in anyway they want but it should be an activity that raises the heart rate significantly. Here is a three minute video that states the intensity level they should reach during daily exercise. Here is a link to that video: safeYouTube.net/w/YpFdb
Here are some resources for them to access workouts they can do at home:
Through the Sworkit Youth Initiative, DHS has secured premium accounts to Sworkit. These are avaiable to students, teachers & even parents. There are strength, cardio, yoga workouts and more all free. But students ( or teachers or parents) need to claim the free premium account. To get a free SWORKIT account, do the following:
1. Log onto app.sworkit.com/redeem
2. On the next page they scroll to the bottom and click: Referral or group code- then it will ask you to sign in-
3. they can log in using their school account or personal google acct ** you can even get an account for your parents if you like!!
4. Then it will ask for a code. The code is: SYIDOWNEYHS. This account works on a phone with the app or on a desktop or laptop computer.
7- minute workout- This app is either free or a dollar or two.

www.Darebee.com this is not an app but a website with over 1300 exercises, workout programs, nutritional info, even diet plans- It's great!!
We highly recommend that students set an alarm each day for a reasonable time in the morning, get up & move early in the day. Building exercise into a daily routine can really make the rest of the day easier to get through. Remember, a body at rest tends to stay at rest, and a body in motion, tends to stay in motion!!
